about book

José Tiago da Fonseca Oliveira (1928-1992) wrote about 'Statistical Theory of Extremes'. After a slow development since the 1930’s, this theory developed very quickly after, namely by the work of Gumbel (1958). The aim of the present book is to integrate, in one text, the state of knowledge of essential methodology for univariate and multivariate extremes and some stochastic processes, based on the fundamental probabilistic results.
